Wick Size Matters
Not trimming candle wicks properly can cause:
tunneling (not melting wax to the edge of the jar)
unsafe flame height
wick curls or falls over and becomes hard to light
will not hold a flame
Trim wick to 1/4 of an inch before lighting, as it says on the bottom of each candle. This will keep your candle lighting well and help prevent accidents (fire, hot glass jar, etc.).
Some wick trimmers such as those pictured here have a 1/4 inch guide. Wick trimmers that have a wider angle (black trimmer ) may not fit in small diameter jars well. For 7oz jars featured in the shop, a more vertical trimmer works easier.
Scissors work for most cotton wicks and wood wick ash can also be pinched off with fingers. Wood wicks will not light if there if not trimmed correctly.
