Frequently Asked Questions

Are your fragrances safe?

The concerns surrounding the effect that fragrances have on our bodies is something we closely follow. We believe in transparency regarding information on the safety of products we consume and encourage fragranced product users to maintain high standards in this regard as well. In saying this, here are some measures we take to ensure our products are as non-toxic as possible:

Our fragrances are phthalate and California’s proposition 65 ingredient free, and avoid carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins, and acute toxins as they are reported by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) and the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM). We will continue to source our fragrances from suppliers who abide by these standards and make an effort to continuously update their safety information. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns regarding this.

Is your soap safe for sensitive skin?

While everyone’s skin reacts differently to products, our soap has been tested by those with eczema, dry, and sensitive skin. Always check ingredients for any sensitivities, and try heavier moisturizers like buttermilk and coconut milk for dry skin. All our bars are detergent-free, so they do not contain phthalates, parabens, or sulfates.

Why is my bar of soap melting away so fast?

This is likely because the bar is not being stored where it can dry between uses. Soap should be stored on a well-drained area and out of the path of water. Check the care sheet that comes with every soap order for more details and tips!

The science behind it: The saponification process (making soap) creates glycerin, which is very water soluble, so it dissolves in water easily. The same properties that make glycerin-based soap melt away in water easier than heavier oil-based soap are what make glycerin a great hydrating ingredient. The small, water-loving molecules can bring water into (hydrate) the skin deeper than larger, oil based molecules.

Follow up this hydration with an oil based product like lotion or body butter to moisturize (seal in water), especially in dry climates and when washing hands often.

When will you restock?

Our social media pages will have the most recent updates on new launches and restocks.

How long do your candles last?

When burned properly (following safety label instructions by burning in 4-hour or less increments and trimming the wick), 7 oz candles last around 25-35 hours.

How sustainable is F&F?

One of the biggest inevitable wastes of this industry is packaging and packing material. F&F stays mindful to keep packaging minimal and takes many steps to do our part for the environment:

  • Soap packaging is made of handmade paper from recycled 100% cotton rags.

  • Bookish and Signature candle labels are 25% hemp fiber and 75% post-consumer recycled content with no virgin wood content.

  • Our wax melt plastic clamshells are recyclable.

  • Candle testing jars are reused and recycled.

  • All of our packing material is reused and or recyclable. Our packing peanuts are made of cornstarch, and they are 100% biodegradable, compostable, and dissolve in water. The two types of air pillows reused include a 100% compostable and recyclable pillow or a recyclable pillow. Bubble wrap is reused.
